What are we proposing?
Located near Maesteg and Pontycymmer in South Wales, Pennant Walters is developing proposals for the Glanllynfi Garth Wind Farm. The proposals currently comprise up to eight wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of up to 180 metres.
It is estimated that that the wind farm will generate up to 38MW of renewable electricity, which will be equivalent to the domestic needs of approximately 24,716 households.
Project scope
We have been carrying out environmental surveys, technical assessments and site investigations to help inform and refine the developing proposals for Glanllynfi Garth Wind Farm.
The current proposals include:
- Up to eight wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of up to 180 metres
- Two substations and electrical infrastructure
- Two temporary construction compounds
- Two temporary site offices and welfare facilities
- Crane pads and underground cabling
- Access track construction and associated site infrastructure
- Overhead line connection (via wooden pole) to agreed Point of Connection (POC) with National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED)
The wind farm is expected to have an operational lifespan of approximately 30 years, exporting renewable electricity directly into the National Grid distribution network.
The proposed development is predominantly located within an area identified by Welsh Government policy as suitable for renewable energy development through the Future Wales National Development Framework.
The Welsh Government has identified renewable energy generation as a key priority in supporting Wales’ transition towards a lower carbon future, including ambitions to:
- Meet 100% of Wales’ annual electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2035
- Increase locally owned renewable energy generation capacity
- Support community and local participation in future energy projects
This project is one of a number of new proposed wind farm schemes being brought forward by Pennant Walters, and the Project team is committed to informing, engaging and consulting through the design and planning process, to ensure local communities and stakeholders have an opportunity to contribute their views.
